Police stop lorry containing £70,000 of stolen whisky on Yorkshire motorway
The lorry was driving along the M606 near Bradford when it was stopped
West Yorkshire Police have stopped a lorry from transporting £70,000 worth of stolen whisky near Bradford.
The lorry had been driving along M606 near Bradford in the early hours of Saturday morning (December 14th), when it was pulled over by officers.
As part of Operation Limit - the national drink and drug driving campaign, officers were deployed to stop the vehicle at around 7:50am.
The lorry had initially failed to stop for police which led to a brief pursuit as it headed northbound.
Once the vehicle was pulled over, officers from West Yorkshire Police found that the lorry was cloned and had no supporting documents attached to it.
When officers conducted a search of the vehicle, they found an estimated £70,000 worth of stolen Johnny Cree whisky.
Following the discovery, two men who had been in the lorry were arrested and taken into custody, resulting in a temporary closure of the M606.
In a statement, the force said: "West Yorkshire Police regularly carry out pro-active commercial vehicle operations to combat this and other offending on our roads, denying their use to criminals and making them safer for all."
