A 16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder following a firearms discharge in Manchester.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested last week in relation to an altercation that took place in the Gorton area of east Manchester last Monday (October 7th).

Three other people, including a 15-year-old boy, 18-year-old man and a 21-year-old man, were arrested by Greater Manchester Police in connection with the incident but were bailed and later released without charge.

Now, the 16-year-old was charged on Sunday (October 13th) with attempted murder, as well as the possession of a bladed article.

The charge relates to an incident where a firearm was discharged on Hampden Crescent in Gorton on October 7th that left a man with life-changing injuries.

The boy will appear before Manchester Youth Court this coming Monday (October 14th). The 18-year-old boy remains on bail pending further investigation by officers.

In a statement, Detective Chief Inspector Nicola McCulloch from Greater Manchester Police said: "Local officers continue to have an increased visible presence in the area to provide the local community with reassurance, after what we know has been a shocking incident.

"Our investigation is very much ongoing and our call for witnesses and footage remains in place. We urge anyone who has not yet come forward to do so."

Anyone who may have any information relating to the incident can get in touch by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 2621 from October 7th.
