A man is in a critical condition following a large gas explosion at a house in Longridge.

Emergency services have offered a major response to the issue after it was first alerted at 10:31am on Sunday morning (September 1st), following the explosion on Wheatley Drive.

The victim was found outside of the house when responders arrived on the scene, suffering with serious burn injuries.

Two other people suffered minor injuries in the explosion, with the man being taken to hospital for his injuries.

Currently, officers have described the victim's condition as being in a "critical" condition.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that eight fire engines had been in attendance trying to put out the fire.

The force added that firefighters from the Preston, Bamber Bridge, Penwortham, Longridge, Blackburn, Clitheroe, Leyland and Hyndburn areas were responding to the incident.

As well as this, specialist forces - including those in the Urban Search and Rescue unit - were brought in to help recover any victims.

In a statement released on their official website, Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews are likely to remain in attendance for some hours. Please avoid the area."

Other properties in the area have been evacuated while emergency services carry out their lines of investigation.

Both Lancashire Police and Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service have launched a joint investigation to establish the cause of the explosion.

As well as this, the North West Ambulance Service and Cadent have confirmed they are liaising with the emergency services.

Meanwhile, an appeal has been launched to gather evidence - and those who were in the area at the time of the crash to get in touch.
