London teen jailed for one year in Dubai following 'holiday romance'

The 18 year old was with his family in the UAE when a "holiday romance blossomed" with the girl, who was 17 at the time.

A north London teenager has been sentenced to one year in a Dubai prison, following a holiday romance with girl, now 18, but who was 17 at the time.

18 year old Marcus was with his family in the UAE when a "holiday romance blossomed" with the girl - who's also from London.

Its understood her mother contacted police in Dubai once they had returned home to the UK.

In a statement, the campaign group Detained in Dubai said: "Marcus feels abandoned by the British government" with a spokesperson adding the Marcus will be appealing his sentence.

The group said: "There is so much public support for Marcus. They (his family) want to see him home and a year in prison is not only unreasonable, it’s an utter disgrace."

The 18 year old, from Tottenham has been held in Dubai since September.

The family have issued a plea to Dubai ruler, HH Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum.
