The jury has retired to conclude a verdict in the trial of three men, accused of the murder of footballer Cody Fisher at a Birmingham nightclub.
Cody, 23, was stabbed on the dance floor of the Crane nightclub in Digbeth just before midnight on Boxing Day 2022.
Kami Carpenter, of no fixed address, Remy Gordon, of Cofton Park Drive and Reegan Anderson, of Erdington all entered not guilty pleas to murder and affray at Birmingham Crown Court in March last year.
The court has heard through trial proceedings that allegedly Cody Fisher was attacked and murdered following an altercation in Popworld in Solihull on Christmas Eve with Remy Gordon.
The jury has been told that Gordon had posted a picture of Cody Fisher from social media into a Snapchat group chat asking if anyone knows him and then followed it up with a messaged that said: "Due to shank him up."
The jury have also heard how Gordon and Carpenter, spoke about security at nightclubs, including the Crane, and about knives.
As well, the court heard how Carpenter had shared an image two nights before Cody was attacked of him holding a large machete, identical to the knife left in Cody's body.
There's no suggestion it was the same weapon used as the one in the image, but could have been bought from the same place.
The prosecution believe that Carpenter stabbed Mr. Fisher in the Crane nightclub and then allegedly confessed to doing it later, Carpenter has denied this.
The court also heard how Carpenter had booked a flight to Jamaica but was arrested on the morning of it.
Anderson has also told his Snapchat friends he 'needed to go the shank shop' on Christmas Day, something which he had to explain in court.
Cody had played for several non-league clubs in the Midlands, including Stratford Town and Bromsgrove Sporting.
Both teams held memorial matches in his honour, and helped fundraise for Cody's family and charities.
The nightclub Crane, where Cody died, was closed permanently in January 2023 after having its operating licence removed by Birmingham City Council.
Proceedings are still ongoing.
