A mother has pleaded guilty to killing her 10-year-old daughter after appearing in court in Wolverhampton.

Jaskirat Kaur was charged with the manslaughter of her daughter Shay Kang when she appeared at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Friday (August 30th).

Kaur admitted responsibility for the child's death on the basis of diminished responsibility.

Shay Kang was found dead at a property on Robin Close in Rowley Regis after police were called to the family home at 12:10pm on March 4th.

Following a report from the coroner, Shay was revealed to have died due to multiple stab wounds to the chest.

Shay's school Brickhouse Primary paid tribute to the child, describing her as a "bright, happy, fun-loving child who was well liked by all".

At the plea hearing, Kaur denied murdering her child, but Sally Howes KC - leading the prosecution - accepted her guilty plea for manslaughter.

Speaking at the appearance, defence counsellor Katherine Goddard KC had said there was "no dispute" over the facts of the story.

Kaur appeared via video-link during the plea hearing, and spoke only to confirm her name and that she could hear the presiding judge.

Addressing the court, Judge Michael Chambers set the date of sentencing for October 25th, requiring Kaur to be in court during the hearing.

Speaking during the plea hearing, Judge Chambers said: "Your case is being adjourned for sentence, likely on the 25th of October.

"There will be a need for further reports, so it is in your interests to co-operate with the preparation of those reports."
