Investigation launched following man's death at HMP Wakefield

An investigation is underway after a man died in his cell at HMP Wakefield.

Police say they were called just before half past 8 yesterday morning.

Three men - all serving prisoners - have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

A West Yorkshire Police Spokesperson said:

"At 8.25am this morning, police were called to HMP Wakefield on Love Lane to reports a prisoner had died in his cell.

"Detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry team attended and have launched an investigation. The man’s death is currently being treated as suspicious.

"Three men, who are all serving prisoners, have been arrested on suspicion of murder with enquiries continuing to establish the full circumstances of the death."
