Hundreds of people turned out in Coventry as a vigil was held in memory of a 12-year-old boy killed in a hit-and-run.

Keaton Slater was knocked down and killed on Radford Road on 14 June.

The community, alongside Keaton's family, gathered on Friday evening (21 June), close to the scene of the tragedy.

Dozens of sky blue balloons were released, as blue smoke flares were set off in memory of the young Coventry City fan.

The vigil, at the Radford War Memorial green, also included speeches from a compere and the local Rev Benedict.

The crowd, mostly dressed in blue and Coventry City shirts, also joined in a minutes applause.

Police investigation

West Midlands Police have said their investigation into Keaton's death is ongoing and have appealed again for help in locating 21-year-old Dolars Aleksanders, who is wanted on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Detectives believe Aleksanders was behind the wheel during the incident, and have said the black BMW which hit Keaton was travelling at well above the speed limit.

Crimestoppers are offering a £10,000 reward to anyone who provides information which leads to Aleksanders's arrest.

On Wednesday (19 June), Keaton's mum Louise made an emotional plea to help catch those responsible for her son's death.

Fundraiser hits £50,000

A JustGiving page set up to raise money for Keaton's family has raised over £50,000.

Over 3,000 people have contributed, and local schools and community groups have helped out with fundraising events.

Further events are planned in the coming weeks as the community unites in its grief for the tragic loss.
