Major emergency service response as man appears to fall from cargo ship
The incident took place in the Humber late on Thursday night
There has been a large response from emergency services after a man appeared to fall from a cargo ship in the River Humber.
Several emergency services including the Coast Guard and the RNLI attended the scene, which reportedly saw a man go overboard from the ship late on Thursday night (March 28th).
In addition to lifeguard ships that raced to the scene, coast guard helicopters were also used in the search in the water.
Alarms were first raised at around 10:55 p.m. on Thursday night to reports someone had gone overboard from the ship they were on.
However, in a statement by the Maritime and Coast Guard Agency, the search has now been paused whilst more context about the story is being gathered.
The statement read: "The search for a man who was reported to have gone overboard from a cargo vessel in the mouth of the Humber has been suspended pending further information.
"The alarm was raised at about 10:55pm on Thursday 28 March. Coastguard helicopters from Humberside and Lydd, a coastguard fixed wing aircraft, coastguard rescue teams from Withernsea and Hornsea, RNLI lifeboats from Humber, Skegness and Bridlington and nearby vessels all assisted in the search."
Earlier, the Coast Guard said that a "fixed-wing aircraft" had been sent out to search for the man, alongside search teams from nearby brigades.
As well as this, RNLI lifeboats from the Humber, Skegness and Bridlington stations were deployed to provide extra support in the search.
