Officers are investigating after human remains were found on a residential street in south-east London, police said.

The Metropolitan Police said they were called to reports of "suspected human remains/bones" in Sewell Road, Thamesmead, at about 12.30pm on Wednesday.

A force spokesperson said on Thursday: "A cordon has been put in place while forensic officers examine the item and establish its origins.

"Inquiries are ongoing."
