The Torbay Half Marathon & 10k, scheduled to take place tomorrow, has been cancelled.

The organisers have taken to decision in light of the current yellow weather warning and forecasted strong winds.

In a statement, they say the safety of participants, volunteers, spectators, medical staff and event crew are their first priority.

The Race Director, Suzi Cumberland, said: "First and foremost, we are sorry that it has been necessary to cancel the events at short notice and completely understand that many people will be disappointed.

"However, the safety and well-being of participants, spectators, and all those associated with the delivery of our events is our absolute priority, and with the predicted wind speeds, the only decision available to us, after consultation with other parties, has been to cancel."

Due to the time of year, the organisers say that they will not be able to reschedule the event for 2024.

They say they are working with providers and suppliers to determine the next steps regarding refunds of entry fees.

Participants will be contacted in the next few days with further information on how to claim refunds.

Organisers also have said they recognise that runners would be disappointed by the decision to cancel the race, but were happy to give reasonings if racers got in touch.
