Greater Manchester Police launch appeal as woman dies after collision

The incident took place on Mauldeth Road West on Friday afternoon

Police in Greater Manchester have said that a woman who was seriously injured in a collision on Friday (May 31st) has died.

The woman, who was 22, was injured when she was involved in a collision with a vehicle on Mauldeth Road West in Withington in the south of the city.

Officers were called to the scene soon after the incident took place at 11:52 a.m. to give emergency treatment to the woman.

She was taken to hospital by emergency service teams, but sadly passed away due to her injuries.

Two men, aged 18 and 20 were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the incident.

Following their initial investigations, one of the men has been released with no further action, whilst the second was bailed pending further enquiries.

Speaking on the force's handling of the case, Sergeant Andrew Page from Greater Manchester Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit paid tribute to the woman at her tragic death.

"Our thoughts are with this young woman’s family at this tragic time," he said. "They are being supported by specially trained officers and we will continue to do all we can to get answers for them.

"If you witnessed anything, or you have any further information, we’d be grateful if you come forward and help with our enquiries."

Page added that anyone who may have been an eyewitness to the collision, or if anyone has doorbell or dashcam footage of the road at the time of the crash, should get in touch as soon as possible.

"It can all be used to help us establish how a young woman lost her life in such distressing circumstances," Page also said.
