The family of Nottingham University student Barnaby Webber have described their "complete devastation" at the "senseless murder of our son".

Barnaby, who was from Taunton has been called a "beautiful, brilliant, bright young man, with everything in life to look forward to".

His parents, David and Emma, and younger brother Charlie said he was "at the start of his journey into adulthood and was developing into a wonderful young man".

In a statement, the family say "Complete devastation is not enough to describe our pain and loss at the senseless murder of our son.

"Barnaby Philip John Webber was a beautiful, brilliant, bright young man, with everything in life to look forward to.

"A talented and passionate cricketer, who was over the moon to have made selection to his university cricket team."

Barnaby played for the Tauton-based team, Bishop Hull - who paid tribute to him, saying he was a "dear friend".

The victim was described as a "key part" of the club and the statement invited family and friends to lay flowers and pay their respects at the ground.

Former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan also paid tribute to Mr Webber, describing him as a "young cricketer gone far too soon".

A former pupil of Taunton School also posted a tribute in the Old Tauntonians alumni group on Facebook, describing him as a "wonderful young man with much to look forward to".

Barnaby was killed alongside fellow Nottingham University student, 19-year-old Grace Kumar.

England Hockey said they were “deeply saddened” at the news of Ms Kumar’s death.

Before their match got going this morning, the Essex and Somerset cricket teams paid tribute to Barnaby Webber with a minute's silence.

They said: "We are still in shock about the news regarding Barnaby Webber and those who lost their lives yesterday in Nottingham.

"Sending all our love and strength to friends and family at this extremely difficult time."

A man in his 50s was also killed in the attack.

Police investigations into what happened remain ongoing.

A 31 year-old man's been arrested on suspicion of murder.
