The family of Jordan Banks, who died after being struck by lightning in Blackpool, have paid tribute to him.

Jordan, nine, from Blackpool, was seriously injured on playing fields off School Road around 5.05pm yesterday (Tuesday, May 11).

Emergency services attended and Jordan was taken to hospital, but died a short time later.

Jordan’s family are now being supported by specialist officers.

In a statement, Jordan’s family said: "Yesterday our worlds stopped. We lost the brightest star our beautiful boy Jordan.

"His laugh, that infectious smile, golden curls, he was our everything.

"Wise beyond his years, caring, considerate, generous and so loving. Our love is endless. Goodnight beautiful boy. We thank you all for your kind words and support but as a family ask that you respect our wishes and privacy."

The Spirit of Youth Football Club say that although the young boy wasn't one of their players, they'll be giving support to the family and those that were there with him at the time

It happened on their home ground but wasn't during a club training session.

The treasurer of the club made a statement near to where Jordan was playing when it happened:

As a Liverpool FC fan Jordan spent a lot of his time raising money for charity, including running a marathon in honour of a close family member who took his own life. It led to him getting a video message from LFC player James Milner back in January.

He even helped keep frontline workers' spirits up during lockdown by surprising them with sweets and chocolate.

A fundraiser has been set up to support Jordan's family during this difficult time. The money will go towards funeral costs, with anything left over being donated to a charity of Jordan's family's choice.
