The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation after a 66-year-old was fatally stabbed in a flat in North London.

Officers were first called to the property in Enfield on Friday (March 1st) just before 7:30pm following reports of an altercation in a block of flats in Lockhart Close, Enfield.

When responders arrived, they found the victim, who was critically injured in the communal area of the flat block. Despite their best efforts, emergency services were unable to save the man's life and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives investigating the murder have said they already know the identity of the man who was killed, and are trying to find his next of kin order to inform them of his passing.

Speaking on the incident, Detective Chief Inspector Laura Nelson from the Met Police's Specialist Crime unit gave more details on what they believe happened.

"The victim was stabbed inside a flat in Lockhart Close and was found, critically injured, in the communal area of the block," she explained.

"I know that local people will be extremely concerned by this tragic incident, and I can assure them that dedicated detectives are investigating. We will do everything possible to find whoever was responsible for this killing."

The person who died is yet to receive a full identification and a post-mortem examination is waiting to be arranged to determine the ultimate cause of his death.

DCI Nelson added that the force was "grateful" to the local community, who have done all they can to help officers in their investigations. She added that there will be an added police presence in the area to provide some assurance to potentially affected residents.

Officers are now appealing for information and witnesses to anyone who may have seen anything around the time of the attack at Lockhart Close, but also expanding the search area to nearby Derby Road, Lincoln Road and the surrounding areas.

Those who may have any potential information is being urged to contact the Met Police as soon as possible, quoting incident reference number 6185 on March 1st, 2024.
