Welsh fly-half Dan Biggar has announced his shock retirement from international rugby, following this year's Rugby World Cup in France.

He’s made over 100 appearances since he first played for Wales back in 2008, but now the 33-year-old is planning on bowing out later this year.

Biggar is getting ready for his third World Cup with Wales, who are officially starting their campaign against Fiji on the 10th of September.

In a statement on social media, Dan said: "I've decided to call time on my Wales career after the World Cup. It's 15 years since I turned up to my first camp and it feels like the right time to walk away."

The former Wales captain has been selected for Warren Gatland’s side who get going next month in the World Cup.

Alongside taking on Fiji, the Wales squad are up against Australia, Georgia, and Portugal - and there'll be a lot for the side to take on-board ahead of their first meeting on September 10, following yesterday's 22-30 defeat for England against Fiji.

During his time on the Welsh International side, Biggar's gone on to help win three Six Nations championships, including a Grand Slam back in 2019.

He's also been on two tours with British Lions, and of course, has also captained Wales.

The fly-half has 109 caps to his name and became only the sixth Welsh player to score 300 points for his country.

Before the 2019 World Cup warm-up games, only Neil Jenkins, Stephen Jones, Halfpenny and James Hook had scored more points for Wales.

Once he's bowed out of international rugby, he'll focus his efforts on Toulon, the side he joined back in October 2022 after he left Northampton.
