A seven-month-old baby girl died after being bitten by her family's pet dog in Coventry in an attack which caused serious injuries to the baby's head.

Police said the baby received treatment by paramedics at the property on Shorncliffe Road just after 3pm on Sunday 16 June.

She was rushed to hospital for further treatment, but she died a short time later.

Police said the pet dog was not classed as a dangerous breed, and was taken away after the attack on Sunday, and was humanely destroyed.

West Midlands Police said they are continuing their investigation, and urged anyone with information to get in touch.
