Two horses have died after competing in a race at Cheltenham Racecourse, organisers have said.

The racecourse had welcomed guests on Sunday (November 17th) as part of its latest set of meetings going into the festive season.

However, in a statement, the racecourse confirmed that two of its horses that had competed in the race had suffered fatal injuries after collapsing on the track.

One of the horses that had died following the fourth race of the evening was winning horse A Buffalo Soldier, according to organisers.

"The winner of our fourth race, A BUFFALO SOLDIER, collapsed after the line and was immediately attended by expert veterinary professionals, but sadly could not be saved. Our heartfelt condolences are with his connections," they said in a statement released on social media.

Shortly afterwards, the course released a second statement regarding the welfare of a second horse that had been injured following the race.

"Bangers and Cash was immediately attended to by our expert veterinary team but sadly sustained a fatal injury. Our heartfelt condolences are with his connections."
