As the Bank Holiday continues across Cornwall, one group of people probably didn't envision their trip to the beach also involving their car getting a dunk.

At 08:29 yesterday morning (28 May), the Coastguard were called out to reports of just that - a car getting stuck in the sea at Trevaunance Cove in St Agnes.

In a statement, Ivor Thomson, from St Agnes Coastguard, said: "We were called out to reports of a car being stuck in the sea at Trevaunance Cove.

"The Coastguard is tasked to incidents like this to make sure there is no risk to life.

"Once on scene, we established that no persons were at risk. Locals, including the owner of the beach, set about retrieving the car to prevent any environmental impact.

"The Coastguard stood by as safety cover while the car was eventually recovered, with safety advice given to the owners who were visiting the county and thought they would take a drive in a local beach."

Posting on the Facebook Page, the St Agnes Search and Rescue Team on Facebook simply said, "You can't park there, sir!"

Their post added: "Team tasked to the Trevaunance Beach car wash to make sure all occupants were out of the vehicle and safe.

"We remained on scene whilst recovery efforts were made and the vehicle was finally removed."

"Team stood down and returned to station at 1019hrs."

The advice from the Coastguard is a simple one - be safe, don't take motor vehicles on a beach, and be mindful of the tides.

If you see anyone in distress on the coast dial 999 and ask for the coastguard.
