Gwent Police say a dog which attacked a girl in Brynmawr on Monday - leaving her with 'life changing' injuries - was an XLBully.

The force has given an update and says the 12 year old who was hurt is in a stable condition in hospital.

The dog was seized by officers and has been humanely destroyed by a vet.

Officers were called to The Crescent in Nantyglo just before 6pm on Monday evening.

A 37-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman, both from the Brynmawr area, were arrested on suspicion of owning or possessing a dog bred for fighting and owning or possessing a dog dangerously out of control.

They remain in police custody.
