Police in Cumbria are renewing their appeal for information and witnesses following an assault in Barrow-in-Furness that left one man in hospital.

Officers first received reports of an assault taking place on Cavendish Street in the centre of the town at around 3:58 a.m. on Sunday morning (March 31st).

In total, investigators determined the incident involved three men and one woman as officers worked to establish the events leading up to the run-in.

When responders arrived, they found a man in his 50s requiring urgent medical treatment, as well as a woman who was assaulted in a separate incident - who suffered no injuries.

The man who was hurt in the attack, who is in his 50s, currently remains in a critical, but stable, condition in hospital.

Following initial enquiries, a 24-year-old man from Barrow was arrested by officers on suspicion of grievous bodily harm, and has now been released on police bail.

As well as this, a 16-year-old boy - also from Barrow - was arrested on suspicion of attempted assault on a person thereby occasioning them actual bodily harm. He was also released under investigation.

Cumbria Police are continuing to work out the events that preceded the attack and have urged anyone who might have seen the incident take place to come forward.

Specifically, investigators are looking to speak to other people who were out at the time, alongside taxi drivers who might have seen what happened to provide some extra information.

Anyone with information can get in touch with the force by calling 101 or contacting officers online, quoting incident reference number 28 on March 31st.
