The funeral has taken place of Alice da Silva Aguiar, one of the three girls who was killed in the Southport stabbings.

Hundreds of mourners and well-wishers gathered along the streets of Southport to remember the nine-year-old.

Alice was among a group of children injured after being attacked at a Taylor Swift-themed dance event in the town last month.

Her parents Sergio and Alexandra led the procession in the church, with family and close friends joining the cortege in honour of the girl.

Among those who had been invited to the funeral were members of the emergency services who attended the scene to detail suspect Axel Rudakubana, as well as Serena Kennedy - Chief Constable of Merseyside Police.

Members of the public lined Marshside Road as the funeral cortege arrived, along with about 30 uniformed police officers.

As well as this, pink ribbons were tied to garden walls and lampposts around the route of the cortege as Alice was laid to rest.

Those wishing to pay their respects erupted into applause as Alice's coffin slowly made its way to the church entrance, being drawn by two white horses with orange white plumes.

The funerals for the remaining two children killed in the attack - Elsie Dot Stancombe and Bebe King - will be held in due course.

In total, eight other children were seriously injured in the attack - and have now been discharged from hospital to continue their recovery at home.
