Snapchat was fast becoming one of the most popular apps of the decade, with millions of people using the service across the world. Despite everything working great on the old Snapchat, bosses decided it was time for an update, and it has left a lot of people fuming.

How do I get the old Snapchat back?

You'll be pleased to know that there is a way to reverse the new Snapchat update on both iPhone and Android devices.

If you follow the steps below your Snapchat account should revert back.

How to get the old Snapchat back on your iPhone:

1) Delete the app off your phone.

2) Connect your phone to iTunes on your computer and select your device when it loads. Instead of syncing your device, click the 'Applications' button.

3) Then you will need to select ‘Apps’ in the iTunes sidebar and find Snapchat from the list.

4) Select the 'Install' option and then sync your device.

Why did Snapchat update?

Bosses made the decision to update the app to split your friends and family from businesses, but it hasn't gone down well with users.

As part of the update, the friends, stories and discover sections all updated.

CEO Evan Spiegel has now revealed that they will be making some changes to Snapchat following the backlash from users after the update.

Are people happy with Snapchat's new update?

It seems the majority of Snapchat users completely hate the new update. Many angry users have taken to Twitter to vent their frustration at the new update:

Annoyed users include many high profile celebrities including Phillip Schofield and Kylie Jenner.

What is the 'Remove the new Snapchat Update' petition?

After the update took place, a Snapchat user from Australia created an online petition on change.org titled 'Remove the new Snapchat Update'.

At the time of publication, the petition has 1,257,604 signatures, with the goal to reach 1.5 million growing closer.

You can sign the petition here.

Are there any other changes in the new Snapchat update?

Despite seemingly annoying users with its new display, some parts of the update are actually really useful.

Users are now able to give their snaps an unlimited viewing time, as well as a whole host of new fonts and effects that users can add to their photos.

Have Snapchat responded to the recent backlash about the update?

Yes, Snapchat have admitted they've received a backlash since they rolled out the new update.

A spokesperson for the app said, "Updates as big as this one can take a little getting used to, but we hope the community will enjoy it once they settle in.”

Now in May 2018 Snapchat have addressed the issues again saying they will be making some changes to the app in a new update. Snapchat's CEO said, "We learned that combining watching Stories and communicating with friends into the same place made it harder to optimise for both competing behaviours."

Are there any issues with getting the old Snapchat back?

Yes, as Snapchat's new update involved security updates, reverting back to the old account could mean that you are not safe.

Raj Samani, a security adviser, recently told The Independent, "While the changes to Snapchat’s user interface haven’t gone down too well, users need to be aware that any app updates are also likely to contain vital security updates in addition to changes to the look and feel."

You have been warned!
