After strutting their stuff on Strictly Come Dancing on Saturday night, it's now been confirmed that McFly singer Tom Fletcher and his partner Amy Dowden have tested positive for COVID-19, meaning they both have to self-isolate.

The pair, who scored 21 points during the first live show, have both confirmed they will miss the live show on Saturday 2nd October, but admit they hope to be back for Week 3 on Saturday 9th.

Welsh dancer Amy, who has been touring the UK with McFly over the last week, told her fans on Instagram: 'Unfortunately @tomfletcher and I have tested positive for Covid-19. I’m not suffering any symptoms but am now isolating at home. I have no doubt that over the next 10 days my mind will be going crazy with choreography ideas ready to get back on the strictly dance floor for the live show in week 3!

'Thank you for all of the support and good luck to all of the couples this week. I will be cheering you all on! 💖💖💖💖 @bbcstrictly'. (sic)

McFly first announced the news that Tom was unwell and wouldn't be performing at Glasgow's SSE Hydro on Sunday night.

The band released a statement reading: 'Unfortunately Tom is unwell and won't be onstage with us tonight in Glasgow. Tom sends huge and heartfelt apologies to all the fans he won’t see tonight. The show will still be going ahead, we’re looking forward to seeing you all and need you guys to sing extra loud for us tonight!' (sic)

However, just hours later after Tom's test results arrived back, the band updated fans again, writing: 'Further to our last message we can now confirm that Tom has tested positive for Covid-19. He is now self isolating and following the latest government guidelines. Please join us in wishing him a speedy recovery.' (sic)

Strictly bosses also commented on the situation, saying: “The pair are now self-isolating separately following the latest government guidelines. While they will both miss Saturday’s live show, Strictly Come Dancing protocols mean that, all being well, they will return the following week.”

Tom and Amy opened the 2021 series of Strictly on Saturday night, performing the Cha-Cha to Earth Wind & Fire's popular hit 'September'.

Despite impressing his fans at home, the judges only scored the pair 21 out of 40, meaning they found themselves on the bottom half of the leaderboard.
