Following the news that Anne Robinson has stepped down from her presenting role on Channel 4 show Countdown, after just one year, rumours are rife as to who will replace her. One name on everybody's lips is the one and only Richard Osman, after he recently announced he'd be leaving BBC quiz show Pointless following 13 years!

However, after seeing the rumours linking him with the job, Richard has now hit back in response, shutting down the claims.

Taking to Twitter, 51-year-old Richard wrote: 'I keep reading I'm the favourite to be the new Countdown host. But there are 3 problems.

'1. I just gave up a show I love because I have no time.

'2. @susiedent and I are mortal enemies.

'3. They should give the job to @ColinMurray'. (sic)

The tweet comes just weeks after Richard announced he'd be leaving his role on Pointless after 13 years alongside host Alexander Armstrong.

Taking to Twitter on Friday 8th April, Richard told fans: 'After 13 wonderful years I'm leaving daytime Pointless, to concentrate on writing. Will still be doing the celebrity shows and 'HouseOfGames'. It has been the GREATEST pleasure and I can't wait to start watching as a viewer. Thank you to everyone! ❤️

'Am very, very, very touched by all of your replies, thank you. ❤️'. (sic)
