Martin Compston and Vicky McClure get emotional as filming for Line of Duty wraps

Just days after it was revealed that series six of hit crime drama Line of Duty will hit our TV screens in March 2021, main stars Martin Compston and Vicky McClure have revealed that filming is now complete!

The pair, who have been filming in Belfast since production resumed following a postponement due to the Coronavirus pandemic, both took to their social media accounts over the weekend to reveal the news.

Sharing a cute photo alongside her partner Jonny Owen, Vicky, who plays the role of DI Kate Fleming, told her fans, 'Home❣️ 3 months away from home not easy...but we have the BEST crew who’ve kept each other safe, kept spirits high, couldn’t of been on any other job through this. I love you all LOD lot!!!!! ❤️ xxxxx #LOD6'. (sic)

DS Steve Arnott actor Martin took to Twitter to write, 'Another one in the bag, hope you all enjoy it when it comes, AC12 over and out for now x'.

Alongside his note he told fans, 'Delighted we've finally wrapped Series 6! Tip of the cap to the production team for putting the protocols in place to provide a safe working environment and to the phenomenal crew, having the discipline and determination to work within the new parameters and get us over the line.'

He added, 'It was a different way of filming to get used to but we we're lucky to get back doing a job we love. The scripts from Jed Mercurio superb as ever and we gave it everything we had so fingers crossed.

'For a lot of us the COVID bubble meant being apart from family for an extended period. I'm now looking forward to some quality time with mine, with that in mind heading offline for a bit. Stay safe troops!' (sic)

Line of Duty series six was originally due to air this year, but after the global pandemic put a halt to all filming, the show was pushed back.

Filming resumed at the beginning of September, with creator Jed Mercurio sharing a number of behind the scenes photos to get fans excited for it's return.

It was then revealed Line of Duty will return in March 2021.
