It’s almost two decades since hit TV show Frasier left our screens in 2004 but producers have confirmed the show will now return.

Frasier was a spin-off of the immensely popular comedy series Cheers and became one of the most successful shows in US history.

Starring Kelsey Grammer as a psychiatrist-turned- radio host, the popular show ran for 11 seasons and won a total of 37 Emmy Awards, including five for Best Comedy.

Grammer confirmed the news of the revival and said, ‘I gleefully anticipate sharing the next chapter in the continuing journey of Dr Frasier Crane.’

Although it is yet to be confirmed whether to rest of the original cast will return, president of CBS Studios David Stapf said, ‘There has long been a call from fans for its return, and that call is now answered.’

There is no confirmed date for the show to return, but it will be produced by CBS Studios and air on new streaming service Paramount + in the US.

British actor John Mahoney, who played Frasier’s father in the series, died in 2018 from throat cancer.

Other popular shows Sex and the City, Dexter and Gossip Girl were also recently announced to be set for a revival.

Check out the original names of some of our favourite TV shows:

We know it as Only Fools and Horses with Del Boy's infamous Reliant Regal Supervan.

Hannah Montana

The gripping TV show Lost, starring Terry O'Quinn as John Locke (pictured), kept people guessing the ending for years.

Nowhere

Lost could have been called Nowhere!

New Girl

Known as New Girl, the TV show starring Zooey Deschanel as kooky teacher Jess Day could have been called something else entirely.

While New Girl was the name they finally settled on, it had a much ruder working title - and Zooey Deschanel refused to sign onto the project whilst that was the name.

Supernatural TV series Buffy The Vampire Slayer was a hit in the late 90s and early 00s. It was named after the lead character Buffy Summers, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar.
