Emmerdale viewers stunned at ‘shock’ death on the show
WARNING: Spoiler Alert!
Emmerdale viewers tuned in as normal last night, but they were soon left stunned at the shock death of character Joanie Wright.
The scene in question involved Lisa picking up Joanie from prison, where she’d been serving time for assaulting a police officer. When Lisa decided to break the news to Joanie that she had renewed her romance with Zak, it all seemed too much for the sweet factory worker, who suffered a fatal heart attack just moments later.
With absolutely no warning at all about the shock departure of actress Denise Black from the village, fans took to Twitter to express their feelings about the shocking scene…
Viewers also found it a bit ‘random’ how they didn’t see anything else on screen other than Lisa looking over to find Joanie dead in the passenger seat, with some calling it the 'worst' on-screen death in history...
Later in the episode, Lisa broke the tragic news to Zak when she said, “I don’t know how to tell you this, but Joanie’s died. I collected her from prison like we planned, we were talking, it was fine, then she keeled over. I called an ambulance, they tried to resuscitate her but she had gone."
The aftermath of Joanie's shock death is set to unfold throughout the week as Emmerdale continues weekdays at 7pm.
The cast of Emmerdale achieved great success at the National Television Awards last week. The soap beat off competition from rivals EastEnders, Coronation Street and Hollyoaks to pick up the award for 'Best Serial Drama'.
It was the first time in National Television Award history that Emmerdale picked up the award, previous years there has been a battle between Coronation Street and EastEnders.
Congratulations to all of the cast!
