Deidre Sanders is a well-known agony aunt on This Morning, but while she has helped hundreds of callers over the years, for the last few months she's been living with a cancer diagnosis, which she has now made public.

Appearing on This Morning with Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, on Tuesday 27th September, Deidre explained how she had an "achy back" and had gone to the doctor about it, before being referred for a mammogram.

Deidre opened up about her diagnosis and couldn't praise the NHS enough. The agony aunt explained how some calcification was noticed during her mammogram, which meant she had to have a biopsy, which revealed she did have cancer.

Explaining to the show's hosts, she told how she's so glad she caught it early: "I had that mammogram because this coincidental achy back, the ache is nothing to do probably with the carcinoma."

Dr Nighat, who was also on the show, then went on to give further details on the diagnosis, explaining it is early breast cancer. "If caught early, and treatment is given early, then the prognosis, or the cure of it is better," Dr Nighat explained.

Deidre will be having a lumpectomy this weekend, where they will remove the affected cells, followed by some radiotherapy later on.

When Holly asked how she felt about getting the diagnosis, Deirdre explained how she felt very lucky: "I feel really, really fortunate that it's caught early, I feel really lucky it should just be a lumpectomy... The reality is that it could be that they don't get it all out, and then I would have to have a mastectomy, but obviously I'm keeping everything crossed."

This Morning shared a segment of the interview on Twitter, and responding to it, fans have been sending their well wishes to Deidre, one wrote: 'I'm so sorry. Best wishes and much love to you Deirdre ❤️❤️🙏🙏', with another saying: 'Wishing you all the best Deirdre, I too had the best care when I went through breast cancer last year. Take care x'.

We wish Deidre all the best with her treatment ❤️.
