Coronation Street spoilers: Heartbroken Peter Barlow hits the bottle

Following an argument with Carla about Steve and Leanne, Peter sulks by his cab when he's approached by a thug demanding a free lift.

When Peter refuses, the thug squares up to him and soon things come to blows when he swings a punch, leaving Peter worse off.

The thug scarpers in Peter's cab and a bloody and bruised Peter reels from the attack when he's approached by Barry, a kind passerby.

Seeing Peter worse for wear a well-meaning Barry offers him a swig of whiskey from his hip-flask to take the edge off, and Peter, unable to stop himself, gladly accepts.

When Barry comes into the garage the next day to ask after Peter, Abi is instantly suspicious and tracks him down in the Rovers beer garden.

Abi confronts Peter about what Barry let slip but Peter is adamant that it was a one off and won't happen again. Will Abi tell Carla what she knows?

Late that night Johnny and Jenny are woken by someone thudding around in the bar downstairs and venture downstairs to see what's going on.

But they're confronted by a barely conscious Peter who's ransacked the bar. As Johnny and Jenny drag Peter into a cab, they're watched by Sarah on her way into the factory.

After waking in hospital with Carla by his bedside, an emotional Peter is apologetic and tells Carla he doesn't deserve her.

Carla tries to be sympathetic and begs Peter to accept help. But later on Dan and Adam find him in Victoria Park with an unopened bottle of whiskey...

Elsewhere Leanne gets started on her appeal against the hospital but Imran warns if they going to have a chance then Steve needs to be 100% on board.

Leanne tries her best to change Steve's mind but he's on a different page and begs her to drop the appeal and accept Oliver's fate.

Meanwhile, Tracy confides in Emma about her fears that Amy will struggle to cope with Oliver's death and Emma has an idea.

Emma suggests to Tracy that they could make a memory box of Oliver for them all, but particularly Amy, to remember him by.

After Todd plays a cruel prank on him at work and Sarah lays into him over 'his' mistake, a furious Paul quits his job at the factory.

But later on, he runs into Sarah who offers him his job back and says he's got Todd to thank for covering his back after he stormed out.

Back at work Paul makes an awkward attempt at extending an olive branch to Todd and Todd ends up inviting himself round for bevs at Paul and Billy's place.

With Billy working late, Todd plies Paul with beers and convinces him to try on Billy's ceremonial robes for a laugh.

As they both fall about laughing, Billy arrives home and is unimpressed to find Todd there and a drunk Paul taking the mick out of him.

Meanwhile Sean is excited to make his first sale with his new make-up range and invites Todd, Tyrone, Fiz, Alina and Gemma to Speed-Dahl for a shopping party.

Things get off to a great start but before long Todd turns nasty and makes fun of Sean's new business venture. But Sean isn't having it and warns Todd he knows his game, and to keep his nose out of Billy and Paul's relationship.

Elsewhere, Carla takes another swipe at Adam about coming on to Alina and Adam suggests she must be jealous, but Carla has other motives.

Setting her plan in motion Carla invites both Adam and Sarah for lunch at Ray's hotel, hinting that there's a room for them if things go well.

As Sarah and Adam sit down to talk properly for the first time since their split, it's clear the chemistry is still there. Will they get back together?

Elsewhere, Ray organises a meeting with Craig to talk about upping security at the Bistro and arriving early, Craig waits in Ray's office.

But he's soon distracted by Ray's plans to redevelop the street left on his desk. As Craig sifts through the info Ray arrives and warns him to keep his mouth shut.

Later on Craig calls in at the furniture shop and 'casually' quizzes Gary about the new building project, but Gary cottons on and warns Ray that Craig is onto them.

Determined to keep Craig on side, Ray says he'll put in a good word for him with the Chief Inspector and offers Faye the role of trainee manager across his entire hotel and restaurant chain.

Faye is over the moon at her promotion while Craig masks his unease, and Ray warns him that if he spills, he'll make sure he loses his job in the police force and Faye will no longer be trainee manager.
