With Valentine's Day around the corner, love is in the air for the residents of Weatherfield in Coronation Street.

Bethany Platt worries for Alya Nazir when Ray Crosby sets up a "meeting" at a fancy hotel, all too aware of his creepy history with women.

When some sleuthing with Daniel Osbourne leads to some convincing evidence and they manage to persuade Alya not to meet him, Daniel decides to celebrate by kissing Bethany in the Rovers and letting everyone know about their romance.

But not everyone is so thrilled.

Gary shows Maria the engagement ring

Elsewhere, Maria Connor has concerns about Gary Windass after she catches him behaving suspiciously, and when she confides in Ali Neeson about her worries the two share a passionate kiss – leaving Ali convinced they're back together.

But later on, Maria realises that all Gary's dealings have been to surprise her with an engagement – and Maria is left mortified.

Ed Bailey is thrilled when an old pal, Danny, arrives in Weatherfield on a building job. When Danny tells Ed in passing that he's come out as gay, Ed is surprised.

Later on Ed introduces Danny to his son Michael Bailey, and the chemistry is clear.

At the Bistro, Bethany catches Ray and Alya deep in conversation and, knowing what she knows about Ray, listens in.

Bethany overhears Ray tell Alya that he's booked them a posh suite at a hotel in town to meet an esteemed interior designer to discuss plans to renovate the Bistro.

Later on, after Ray has left for the day, Bethany warns Alya about Ray's murky past and says that he's probably trying to get her into bed, but Alya comes up with an excuse for Ray.

Bethany enlists Daniel's help to gather information about Ray from his solicitor's office, and when they find a list of women's names including Michelle's, Bethany wants to contact the women.

Bethany tells Alya about the list of women's name and when Alya speaks to the designer, Cassie, it's clear she had no idea about the hotel meeting.

Alya confronts Ray about the "meeting", suggesting he'd never intended on a meeting and only wanted to get her into bed. A furious Ray denies the whole thing.

After their successful joint venture gathering evidence against Ray, Daniel finds Bethany in the pub, once more upset after Beth accuses her of disrespecting Sinead's memory.

Having already confided in Adam to sleeping with Bethany, and really liking her, Daniel kisses Bethany in front of the whole pub and announces that they're now an item – and people will have to get used to it.

Meanwhile, David is exhausted from driving up and down to Leeds every day to visit Shona in the hospital.

After a particularly stressful journey, David piles the kids into the car and they set off to the school play – but an exhausted David crashes into a skip.

David and the kids extract themselves from the wreckage, unharmed but shaken, and when the car is declared a write off David worries about how he'll now visit Shona.

The next time David goes to visit Shona, he has to travel to Leeds by train, but is devastated when the doctor tells him that Shona doesn't want to see him and he has to return home.

Hearing about David's situation and feeling sorry for him, Maria give David the keys to her car – much to Gary's annoyance – insisting he needs it more than they do.

Meanwhile, Maria is having her own suspicions about Gary. At the barbers she confides in Ali that she doesn't think Gary is the man she thought he was. As Ali admits he's never stopped loving her, the two share a passionate kiss.

Later on, Maria arrives home and accuses Gary of acting strangely and doing dodgy dealings with Ike and Ryan.

But Ryan and Ike back up Gary, and as Gary produces the surprise engagement ring, it dawns on Maria that she's made a terrible mistake.

Eileen is looking for a new job and calls in at the factory to apply for the role of Customer Service Advisor. Sarah invites her for an interview, which irks Nick.

The day of the interview rolls around, and Eileen is surprised to see Alina back in town, also applying for the same job.

After the interview, Alina runs into her ex, Seb, in town. Caught off guard, Seb introduces Alina to his new girlfriend, Emma.

Realising that Alina has nowhere to stay, Seb offers her the box room in the flat above the salon on a whim and though Emma is hesitant, Alina is grateful.

Fiz and Tyrone have been studying the paperwork from social services about Jade's visitation rights to Hope, and it soon becomes clear that they've no option but to allow her access.

Later on when they tell Hope that she'll be allowed to see Jade again, Hope can't hide her excitement, leaving Fiz crestfallen and both of them wondering if they've done the right thing.

Having taken on the Bistro renovation job, Ed is thrilled when an old pal, Danny, turns up on site as a temporary manager. Danny mentions in passing that he's come out as gay.

Ed hides his surprise well, and when Michael drops in and Ed introduces him to Danny, the chemistry between them is clear to everyone – except Ed.

That evening, Ed tells Aggie about meeting with Danny and his confession. Aggie is supportive, and tells Ed that being gay isn't a big deal.

After his awkward episode with Alya, Ray continues to lay things on thick with Abi, hoping she doesn't cotton onto Bethany's accusations and that she still goes with him to the charity gala.

But Abi hears all about the allegations against Ray. Rather than make her excuses about the event, Abi shows up dressed to the nines with a plan up her sleeve...

Now let's remind ourselves of what's happening this week, shall we?
