Sam Ryder rose to fame through TikTok, but his name was cemented in Eurovision history when he was chosen to represent the UK this year. Singing 'Space Man' for millions of people around the world, Sam was a winner in many people's eyes, coming second to Ukraine, with the most successful result for the UK in a very long time.

Now, as it has been confirmed that the UK will be hosting the Eurovision Song Contest due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Sam spoke to Fleur East on our sister station Hits Radio, he gave her his predictions for which city could host the annual singing competition.

Which cities could host Eurovision Song Contest 2023?

A lot of cities submitted proposals to host Eurovision, but they were whittled down to seven cities. The cities that have been shortlisted are Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, and Sheffield.

Which city does Sam Ryder think will host Eurovision Song Contest 2023?

When asked which city he'd like to see hosting the competition Sam said: "Cardiff is out of the games right, and Birmingham have just had... (the Commonwealth Games).

"I mean I'd be happy with it anywhere, but Manchester seems like a good bet, or Glasgow. They're the ones that I think it could go to."

Will Sam Ryder perform at Eurovision Song Contest 2023?

When asked if he would be performing at the event, Sam admitted he didn't know!

"I have no idea...I hope so," he said: "I'm not going to be coy about it. Please let me do something! I'll sweep, I'll give the tickets out. I just want to see it, it's just going to be so amazing, what an incredible experience for like a Eurovision fan."

Sam Ryder's song 'Somebody'

Sam released his new track 'Somebody' on Friday 19th August and has been teasing it for a while on his socials. The singer revealed how he wrote the song on the morning of the BRIT Awards: "The spirits were high," he explained: "And we just wrote this song, and I wish we could release like a stem of the song of the backing vocals, because it's just us really shouting our heads off. It's nonsense, and it's still in the record."

In the music video, which features stunt doubles doing some incredible moves, we wanted to know how he felt having some doppelgängers!

"Honestly, the wigs were so good, it was uncanny," Sam said, going on to explain how if they had their back to you, they looked just like him. He went on to say how the doubles did some fantastic step work such as tap dancing and backflips, however to make it look realistic he had to start off filming in the scene, which he said was really tricky.

Sam Ryder Answers The Internet

Sam also answered some of those burning questions the Internet have been asking, such as, 'can we have Sam Ryder as Foreign Secretary, he's so diplomatic', and 'what is your favourite Eurovision entry, from your country'.
