Eurovision Song Contest 2023 winner REVEALED

That's it for another year! This year's Eurovision Song Contest was hosted in Liverpool by a great line-up - actress Hannah Waddingham, Alesha Dixon and Ukrainian singer Julia Sanina, alongside Eurovision favourite Graham Norton, commentating with Mel Giedoryc of Bake Off fame.

Now after a night full of fantastic music from around Europe, including the UK entry Mae Muller, with her song 'I Wrote a Song', Loreen's 'Tattoo' for Sweden, and Alessandra's 'Queen of Kings' for Norway, we finally have a winner!

Who won the Eurovision Song Contest 2023?

Sweden! Loreen represented her country at the 2023 contest in Liverpool with an incredible rendition of 'Tattoo', winning 583 points and becoming the second person ever to win Eurovision twice!

Who represented the UK at Eurovision in 2023?

Mae Muller was the UK entry for Eurovision 2023, the singer performed her hit song 'I Wrote a Song' in Liverpool - and although she knocked it out of the park, she took home 24 points and came second to last.

Announced as the UK's representative back in March, Mae's song was written about past relationships and she told us: "Obviously it’s from personal experiences but I kind of just wanted to write something that people could relate to."

When asked if it was about one guy she said: "No, it’s just a bit here and there, you know? I just wanted to write about more the feeling like, you really hurt me you know... how do I turn this emotion into something more positive? How do I come out the other side?"

When was the last time the UK won the Eurovision Song Contest?

We didn't win last year, but Sam Ryder came a very respectable second place to Ukraine, being the most successful UK Eurovision entrant in 24 years!

Other than last year, the UK hasn't had the best track record at the Eurovision Song Contest, although we were very successful between 1967 and 1997, with first place songs in 1967, 1969, 1976, 1981 and 1997.

The UK's last winning entry was in 1997 when Katrina and the Waves's song 'Love Shine A Light' took us to the top.

Over the last decade, the UK have only finished in the Top 10 twice, with Jade Ewen back in 2009, finishing in fifth place with her track 'It's My Time', and of course Sam Ryder last year with his song 'Space Man'.
