Chappell Roan releases 'The Giver' with retro lyric video

Chappell Roan is really having her moment in 2025. Not only did she pick up two awards at The BRIT Awards with Mastercard, she won Best New Artist at the 67th annual Grammy Awards, and performed with legendary musician Elton John.

Following all of her success, the singer, has been teasing her new country song 'The Giver' and it has now been released along with a retro music video.

The song is full-on country, and as Chappell explained in a social media post, she was 'scared' about releasing something so different from her previous song, which was so big in the pop genre.

She told her fans on Instagram: 'The Giver OUT NOW Yeehawwww ☆

'I love this song so much and it’s been such a fun rollout to see the bus benches and billboards and posters and tear-offs wow I am so excited for all of it to come to life ! Eeeee!!!!'

She continued: 'It is def a bold and scary move to release a full ass country song after only releasing one song last year and it having such a success in the pop genre .. (like I am very scared as I type this lol) but I think that’s the entire point of chappell roan. Be bold and scary and have fun. be popstar girl then pop an edible +watch YouTube vibes . The whole point of this is to be silly !!!

'Country music is fire. It’s the campiest of camp. some of you may be new to the country scene and not quite sure what to make of me having a fiddle and banjo in my song. Understandable boo ¨̮ it is something different and sometimes different can feel bad because it’s unfamiliar, but I encourage you to give her another shot ;)

How did Chappell Roan announce the release date for her song?

On 4th March, Chappell posted a photo of herself wearing a red hard hat, she wrote: 'The Giver ☆ OUT 8pm et 3.13', which is midnight UK time.

She continued: '@dan_nigro and I wrote this together and it was so fun!!! We’ve never done a country song and I have such a special place in my heart for country music. I grew up listening to it every morning and afternoon on my school bus and had it swirling around me at bon fires, grocery stores and karaoke bars. Many people have asked if this means I’m making a country album??? My answer is.. hmm right now I’m just making songs that make me feel happy and fun and The Giver is my take on c----- xoxo may the classic country divas lead their genre, I am just here to twirl and do a little gay yodel for yall *✲☆⋆' (sic)

Fans were super excited to finally get a release date for the song that she performed several months ago on Saturday Night Live. In response to the announcement, Selling Sunset's Chrishell Stause commented: 'Sooooo excited! 🔨🪚🛠️' (sic) and the song's co-writer Dan Nigro wrote: 'Is it even a song without a yodel???'.

Before the song's release, Chappell teased different versions of her song, including a Plumber Edition and Lawyer Edition.

It's been nearly a year since Chappell released new music, her last single being 'Good Luck, Babe!' in April 2024. However, the lack of new music as not stopped Chappell from receiving a number of nominations in this year's awards around the world.
