A video has surfaced online which shows a 16 year old Ed Sheeran auditioning for ITV talent show Britannia High back in 2007.

In the clip, Ed can be seen performing with his guitar in front of 3 judges including Arlene Philips. But he really split opinions amongst the judges, with one judge saying ‘his voice is what Britannia High is all about.’

But things take a turn when judges get Ed to dance to Justin Timberlake’s ‘Like I Love’. With Arlene dismissing Ed as ‘not even an opinion’, before adding ‘eventually we’re going to have to find some people who can dance’.

But Ed’s really made it since then, with three albums under his belt, two BRIT Awards, two GRAMMYs and this week he’s made it into the National Portrait Gallery!

A portrait of the singer by artist Colin Davidson has been unveiled at the London gallery. Davidson, who has previously pained Brad Pitt and the Queen, meet with Ed at this home in 2005. When they met Colin made a number of drawings and took reference photos in order to work on the masterpiece.

The Belfast-based artist said it had been a "true privilege to get to know Ed and his family" and commented, "I feel I got it with Ed".

Ed was clearly happy with the work and posted a photo of the portrait on Instagram last night saying, 'Portrait of me by the wonderful Colin Davidson is on exhibition from tomorrow onwards at the national portrait gallery, check it owwwwttt x'.

Colin is known for his large portraits which are all four-foot square. According to the artist they are deliberately the same size, "The idea is that everyone I paint is an equal and that format allows the face to become something else," he explained.

Colin has actually painted two portraits of the 'Castle on the Hill' singer, however the second is in a private collection.

This portrait can be seen as part of the Primary Collection at the National Portrait Gallery which is free to visit.
