Tom and Giovanna Fletcher open up about dealing with depression
They've joined the ‘Where’s Your Head At?’ campaign
Former McFly member Tom Fletcher and his wife Giovanna have opened up about what keeps them awake at night, including coping with the pressure of parenthood and dealing with depression. Joining heat radio's ‘Where’s Your Head At?’ campaign, Tom explained how he went through a tough time with depression before he recognised what it was.
Speaking to heat radio he said, “I went through a tough time with depression and for a long time I didn’t really recognise what that was. It was only when I saw a documentary that Stephen Fry had made and he described my brain."
He continued, "I was at a particularly low point when I saw it and I saw it just by chance when it was on TV and it was that, that made me reach out and go and speak to someone and it was a really defining moment of my life.”

The couple, who are parents to two children, Buzz and Buddy, then opened up about how they came to terms with a miscarriage. Speaking about when it happened Giovanna said, “It feels like such a lonely grief. For me it happened at six weeks so before we had really told anyone, so then when you are telling people, you’re not only telling them that you were pregnant but that you’d lost a child.
She added, "I felt like I’d failed me, I’d failed Tom, I’d failed the baby. It was my first taste of motherhood and I think it affected me in a really bad way.”
However, after overcoming this tough emotional battle, Giovanna is now pregnant with her third child, which is amazing news.
The couple announced the exciting news in March with an adorable video. Captioning the video on his Instagram page, Tom wrote, 'We thought we’d make it a trilogy. Baby 3 coming September! Couldn’t be happier. @mrsgifletcher'. sic

Last year Giovanna was praised for her empowering post-baby body picture. The mum-of-two shared a snap of herself in a black swimsuit playing with her two young sons Buzz and Buddy. She shared the image with the caption,
"I've seen a lot of posts about post-pregnancy bodies this week. At times it does bother me how much my body has changed, but I know I don't ever want it to stop me having fun with the boys. They aren't going to look back and think 'Gosh, Mum had terrible cellulite, stretch marks and wobbled a lot', but they would notice if I sat out of games and didn't make the most of my time with them. "
Giovanna continued,
"My body isn't what it used to be, but even when I was a size 8 I was unhappy with how I looked. It's not a size thing. It's not a weight thing. It's an inner feeling thing. My body gave me the two most important things in my life. So thank you to you in all your wobbles, lumps and bumps. To me, you are perfectly imperfect. Xx #nofilter"
Tom and Giovanna were speaking to heat after pledging their support for ‘Where’s Your Head At?’ a campaign aiming to get a mental health first aider in every workplace or college.
