Ryan Gosling reveals why he was laughing during Oscar mix up
La La Land was given the Best Picture Oscar by mistake
At this year's Oscars the last award of the night turned out to be the most memorable for all the wrong reasons. As the cast and crew of La La Land stood on stage collecting the Best Picture award, happiness turned to horror as it emerged that Moonlight was in fact victorious and the wrong name had been read out.
However Ryan Gosling seemed to see the funny side and was seen giggling on the side of the stage. The Best Actor nominee has now spoken out about why he found the situation so humorous.
Speaking at an Adobe Summit in Las Vegas, Gosling revealed:
"What really was happening as I was watching, it was surreal anyway, I was watching people start to have this panicked reaction in the crowd and guys were coming on with headsets and I felt like someone had been hurt."
"I thought there was some kind of medical situation, and I had this worst case scenario playing out in my head."
"And then I just heard, 'Oh Moonlight won,' and I was so relieved that I started laughing... But truthfully, I was also so thrilled that Moonlight won, I know the director…I’ve worked with them before. It’s such a ground breaking film, made for a million dollars, and incredible achievement and I’m so happy for them that they were being recognised."
