Mission Christmas 21 Blog - Week 3

Edited this week by guest editor Molly Jones-Coffey

Hey I'm Molly, a student from Sheffield Hallam University. I am undergoing an internship at Cash for Kids and it's going well. I walked an hour to work in the snow last week as the bus drivers were on strike so that was fun. Mission is fast paced and I've been running up and down the warehouse taking care of collections, deliveries and advising volunteers as well as managing the administration process. I've been popular with the volunteers, introducing them to our fabulous coffee machine that Lyreco Nespresso have kindly donated to us.

Here's a round up of stories from this week at Mission HQ.

Pricecheck

Santa and his elves from Pricecheck came to visit us with a huge pallet of gifts. Pricecheck are an international company based in Sheffield and it was a pleasure to meet some of their team, thank you to Chloe and the team for coordinating the donation!

Storm Arwen

The snow set us back slightly as charities and organisations were unable to collect their toys and gifts for the children they are helping. This set back however wasn't such a hindrance as we utilized our time by collecting toys and gifts ourselves from our B&M store drop off points around South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire.

Volunteers

We were joined by volunteers from Plusnet, Irwin Mitchell, HSBC and Knight Frank.

We've got close to 400 volunteers this year and it's been so nice meeting new people and socialising after the pandemic. I was particularly impressed with the five volunteers who braved the snow storms to join us on Monday.

Drop off Points

Many of the public donations come close to the deadline. The more donations we get in advance then the more gifts we can prepare ahead of the deadline.

Charlotte McKeown

I would like to end this week's blog with a tribute to 6 year old Charlotte McKeown who has cut her long hair to fundraise for Mission Christmas and at the time of writing she has just smashed the thousand pounds barrier!

Charlotte is coming to see us next week for a cheque presentation, we can't wait to see you!
