Young woman dies after taking drugs in Sheffield
Police think she may have taken MDMA and an investigation's underway
A 22-year-old woman’s died after taking what’s thought to have been MDMA in Sheffield.
She became critically ill on a night out in the Glossop Road area and was taken to hospital early yesterday morning.
The woman’s family has been informed and is being supported by officers. She hasn’t been formally identified yet.
A second woman, who was on a separate night out in the same area, was also taken to hospital.
The 20-year-old remains in a serious condition.
Two people arrested in connection with the investigation, a 23-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, have been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Detective Sergeant Andy Shields said: “This is an upsetting development in the investigation and our thoughts are with the woman’s family at this very sad time.
“We have detectives working tirelessly to investigate the circumstances surrounding these two incidents, which we believe are not connected, and we continue to appeal for information from anyone who may be able to help with our enquiries.
“We also want to reiterate our advice to everyone to be aware of the dangers both legal and illegal drugs can pose, please be careful and report any concerns you may have.”
