A number of agencies working together in South Yorkshire tell us they're keen to 'restore some pride' into Sheffield's city centre.

South Yorkshire Police are stepping up patrols in the area to try and reduce crime & anti-social behaviour, while Sheffield BID often clean up there & help the homeless.

Darren Hendleman's the Operations Manager for Sheffield BID.

He believes more people will want to visit again going forwards:

"Sheffield is a safe city. There's plenty of police officers around & other partner agencies to support people coming to the city centre.

"There's still a lot of work to do, but we are heading in the right direction and the future's looking bright.

"I think it's important that the city centre is made to look as presentable as it can do.

"Our team clean a lot of key area hotspots to make sure it's clean, safe, vibrant and well maintained."

Meanwhile, Inspector Gareth Thomas from South Yorkshire Police insists they'll have the resources to patrol the area more often down the line in an effort to reduce crime.

He says it's all about offering the community a greater sense of reassurance:

"From a personal point of view, I want Sheffield city centre to be a safe place.

"I want my family to be able to come here and be confident that they can walk through the streets without the fear of any violence or criminal acts being taken upon them.

"So, that's the purpose going forwards for this team here at South Yorkshire Police.

"We want things to improve on a day-by-day basis.

"Sheffield will be a safe place; myself and my team are adamant that this will be the case.

"If you're in the area and you see any police officers, please engage with us.

"If you do have any concerns, please raise them with us and we'll do our best to make sure you do have an enjoyable trip to the city centre."
