South Yorkshire academics: A lot of 'irrational hype' around artificial intelligence

Academics in South Yorkshire insist there's a lot of 'unnecessary speculation' around the threats of artificial intelligence to humanity.
It's as politicians from around the world have gathered in Buckinghamshire to discuss the potential & risks of AI.
Mike Marriott's the course leader for Computer Science with AI at Sheffield Hallam Uni.
He's been giving us his thoughts on what needs to come from the 2-day summit - which finishes later today:
"At the current point in time, there's no danger of AI ending the world.
"We're nowhere near that scenario by decades.
"These systems aren't plugged into any major control infrastructure or military infrastructure.
"I'm hoping that the UK government comes up - in conjunction with our international partners - with a robust and solid starting point for us to create some protection for the use of AI within our society, and within businesses."
Yesterday - the billionaire owner of X & Tesla was in Buckinghamshire for the event - as he spoke about the technology's potential - & its risks.
The two-day summit at Bletchley Park in Milton Keynes is due to finish later today.
