A lottery-style charity project in Sheffield is inviting more members to sign up for ÂŁ1 a week to help local people.

500 Together is a volunteer-run group collecting weekly donations and allowing members to have a say in where the money should go.

Every time money is donated, members receive an email to show them exactly where their ÂŁ1 went in the Sheffield area.

Volunteer Nichola Vasey told Hits Radio South Yorkshire: “We’ve donated to so many different causes – helping someone buy a new wheelchair, paying for school uniform, helping someone adapt their bathroom, giving food parcels or helping families who’ve experienced bereavement or ill health and just need to make ends meet.”

“Members nominate where the money goes and we have no overheads, which means every single pound we get goes out to somebody in need.”

The team of volunteers say the people in South Yorkshire have been absolutely brilliant and that people are so keen to help.
