Labour’s Ros Jones has been re-elected as Mayor of Doncaster in a comfortable victory in the first round of voting.

She got 50.92% of the votes, meaning second preferences weren't taken into account. It's the first time that's happened in 15 years of mayoral elections in Doncaster.

Jones has been Mayor of Doncaster since 2013, when she won a narrow victory over independent candidate Peter Davies.

It was much more decisive this time though than it was 4 years ago - with the Labour candidate winning over 32,000 votes.

The Conservatives came in second for the first time here since 2002.

Here are the results in full:

Ros Jones - Labour - 32,631

George Jabbour - Conservative - 13,575

Brian Whitmore - UKIP -7,764

Eddie Todd - Independent - 5,344

Chris Whitwood - The Yorkshire Party - 3,235

Steve Williams - TUSC - 1,531

The turnout was 29.35% - slightly up on the 2013 figure of 28%.

Ros Jones promised during her campaign that she'd deliver more high-skilled, high-paid jobs, better schools and to make Doncaster into a University Borough.

She said in her victory speech:

"I am delighted to be re-elected. I am proud of our achievements so far - great progress has been made in Doncaster over the last 4 years. Lots of mayor improvements, new homes, better education, modernising services and protecting the front line.

"We have built firm foundations but there is no time to rest. We must continue progress. We have made and will stick to our long-term plan for Doncaster. More jobs and growth, more housing, better care for our elderly, further improvement in education and skills and regeneration across our borough."
