Police say a 19-year-old man was seriously injured in a double stabbing at Meadowhall shopping centre yesterday (2nd January).

Officers were called to the centre just after 6.20pm, with pictures shared online showing an area on the top level taped off.

The force say they believe a group of men who were known to each other were involved in a fight, with two of them being stabbed.

The two men, both aged 19, were taken to hospital. One of the men suffered minor injuries and has since been discharged, while the other remains in hospital with serious injuries.

Two men, aged 24 and 20, have been arrested on suspicion of Section 18 assault and remain in custody.

The police cordon inside the shopping centre has been lifted but investigations into what happened are continuing.

Anyone with any information is asked to report it via 101, quoting incident number 728 of 2 January.
