Man admits killing parents in Sheffield
James Andrews admitted the manslaughter of Bryan and Mary in Totley after denying their murder
A man's admitted killing both his parents in Sheffield.
51-year-old James Andrews, known to his family as Duncan, has pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Bryan and Mary Andrews, who were in their 70s, at their home in Totley after he denied murder.
Andrews appeared in the dock wearing a checked blue shirt over a maroon t-shirt.
Prosecutors said that after receiving psychiatric reports, his guilty pleas to manslaughter by diminished responsibility were acceptable, and there would be no trial on the murder charges.
The 15-minute-long hearing heard that the defendant is currently being held at Rampton high security hospital, in Nottinghamshire.
Bryan and Mary were found critically injured in their home on Terrey Road in November last year. Police said they died of stab wounds.
Neighbours at the time described them as pillars of the community who would do anything for anyone.
The judge told the court she was very keen that she is provided with as much detail as possible about Mr and Mrs Andrews before their son is sentenced on June 15.
She said she wanted the court to have a full picture of the couple and their "wonderful qualities".
