Labour's Ros Jones wins third term as Mayor of Doncaster
The race for the top job was tighter this year though
Labour's Ros Jones has been re-elected as the Mayor of Doncaster for a third term.
She won in the second round of voting with 31,232 votes, more than 10,000 more than the Conservative candidate James Hart.
But the race was tighter than four years ago, when Jones won the position in the first round, getting more than 50% of the first preference votes.
Jones said she was "privileged" and "humbled" to lead the Borough of Doncaster for a third term.
But she said she wasn't worried that the vote was closer this year:
"It was a minimal difference wasn't it. I was always hopeful but I never take anyone for granted and I trust our residents."
She said her ten year strategy for Doncaster was to deliver "thriving people, place and planet", underlining the the importance of tackling climate change:
"As a society we must act now to tackle the climate crisis and ensure we leave a safe and healthy planet for future generations."
The turnout of the Mayoral election was 28.05%, slightly lower than in 2017.
