A scene is in place today while officers investigate what's happened.

A Police spokesperson said:

"An investigation is underway following the reported assault of a man on London Road late yesterday evening (Tuesday 3 July).

"At around 10.45pm, emergency services were called following reports a man had been stabbed. Upon arrival, a man in his 20s was found seriously injured. He was taken to hospital where his injuries were not deemed to be life threatening and he remains in a stable condition.

"There is a police cordon and road closure in place on London Road as officers continue their enquiries."

"We know how concerning this incident will be for the local community and residents across the city and I want to reassure the public that our enquiries continue at pace. We believe this be a targeted attack and we are working around the clock to find those responsible.

“We are aware of the traffic disruption ongoing in the city, which will no doubt have caused some issues this morning and I would like to thank those who may have been affected for their patience.
