Sheffield Wednesday chairman Dejphon Chansiri has confirmed staff and players have been "paid their salaries in full", a day after asking fans for £2 million.

In an interview with the Sheffield Star, the owner of the struggling Championship club warned they were facing a multi-season transfer embargo over debts owed to HMRC and cashflow problems.

But in a fresh statement, Chansiri said: " I received funds due to me which allowed me to transfer funds to the club.

"Money owed to me was late and this had the potential to impact on the club."

Chansiri also confirmed the club had paid an outstanding HMRC bill, meaning a transfer embargo imposed last Friday by the EFL has been lifted.

He added: "In business, what happens today can be very different tomorrow and right now this is finished.

As I said in the interview, there are no ‘games’ here, this was a serious situation. I understand that some things are hard to hear, and believe me, some things are hard to say.

"The bottom line is that Sheffield Wednesday means everything to me and I will always try my best and do my best for our club, today and tomorrow."

The row comes after Wednesday recorded their first win in the Championship this season, against Rotherham in a South Yorkshire derby.

The Owls are bottom of the table, with just six points taken from their opening 14 games.
