Rotherham have finally tied up the protracted signing of Christ Tiehi in a club-record transfer.

The Millers have been trying to complete the paperwork on the permanent move of the midfielder from Czech Republic side Slovan Liberec for several weeks, but it was held up by red tape at the Home Office.

It has now finally been completed with the former Wigan loanee joining on a three-year deal.

Although the fee is undisclosed, it surpasses the Ă‚ÂŁ400,000 plus add-ons the Millers paid for Freddie Ladapo in 2018.

Tiehi was present for the majority of Rotherham's pre-season games and has not featured for Liberec in their opening matches of the season.

The deal has been tied up in time for him to be involved against Sunderland on Saturday and there should be no bedding in period given the time spent at the club already.

Boss Matt Taylor said: "It's been a strange six weeks really, the worst kept secret in world football I suppose, the fact he has been training with us, being present at some of our games. We have not been able to hide it so well.

"Delighted it is over the line, a player we targeted right at the start of the process and to get it done two games into the season is a strange thing to say, but we understood the situation and we have worked through it.

"He has trained consistently and he is injury-free but he has not had that game-time, so we have to understand the minutes he gets in the next few matches will be dependent on how he is feeling.

"We did everything as a club to get it done as quickly and as smoothly as we could when there are outside parties."
