With remakes of Ghostbusters and Dad's Army coming soon, we decided to take a look at 10 of the very best (and worst) remakes of classic films... 1. Poltergeist - 1982 and 2015 Originally a film by Steven Spielberg and director Tobe Hooper, the story was about a family in a peaceful suburban home whose lives are shaken by the arrival of supernatural beings.

The newly released version by Gil Kenan follows the same storyline, except now it’s in 3D. 2. Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory/ Charlie & The Chocolate Factory – 1971 and 2005 Based on the successful Roald Dahl books, this remake starring Johnny Depp was a critical and financial success and was the eighth highest grossing film of 2005.

However the Tim Burton directed Willy Wonka was a long way from the version played by Gene Wilder in the original. 3. Batman Vs Superman Both these films have had numerous remakes over the years so we’ve decided to focus on the first time the two characters will come together on film.

Superman, played by Henry Cavill, was given a successful reboot in 2013 and in this film Ben Affleck joins the list of notable actors who have played Batman.

The film is due for release in 2016 and fans are keen to see what will be made of this clash of two heroes. 4. Planet Of The Apes – 1968, 2001 and 2014 Originally remade in 2001 and starring Mark Wahlberg, in this film apes were once again played by actors, however the visually stunning 2014 remake, which follows the successful prequel to the film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, uses animation to bring the apes to life. 5. Footloose – 1984 and 2011 Footloose tells the story of Ren McCormack who moves from Chicago to a small town in which dancing and rock music have been banned.

The remake follows the same story and features Julianne Hough, best known for her time on the American version of Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing with the Stars. We decided to take a look back at Kevin Bacon’s moves that made this film such a cult classic. 6. Godzilla – 1998 and 2014 In a twist on the 1998 film of the same name, instead of Godzilla being the beast to fear, the monster is who humanity need to place their hopes on after a "Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism" ("MUTO") causes havoc when awakened.

Starring Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad this remake was a success at the box office and received generally positive reviews. 7. Oceans 11 – 1960 and 2001 The original heist film starred five Rat Packers: Peter Lawford, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Joey Bishop.

The 2001 remake starred just as notable actors including George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Matt Damon. The film centres on a series of robberies taking place in Las Vegas that will lead to the ultimate heist. The most recent remake spawned to sequels, Ocean’s 12 and Ocean’s 13, keeping most of the same cast throughout the trilogy. 8. Spider Man – 1977, 2002 and 2012 Most notably this role has been played by Toby Maguire in three films and by British actor Andrew Garfield in the Amazing Spiderman reboot. With another remake of the iconic action hero in the pipeline for 2017 we decided to look back to the trailer for where the modern day revivals began. 9. The Italian Job – 1969 and 2003 Although not a like for like remake the 2003 version, starring Mark Wahlberg, still incorporates some of the best known parts of the original including a chase seen using the latest Mini’s.

The film was a success at the box office but received negative reviews from critics. We thought we’d take this opportunity to reminisce about the original movie that spawned the classic line from Michael Caine, “You were only meant to blow the bloody doors off!” 10. Point Break - 1991 and 2015 The original starred Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves and became a cult classic. The latest remake was released in December 2015 but wasn't rated highly by critics.
